About the Role:
ISR Transport is recruiting a Director of Software Engineering to lead the development of cloud-based transportation technology platforms used to support real-time mobility operations across North America.
This leadership role combines software engineering management, technical strategy and delivery oversight across a portfolio of enterprise applications that process live operational data, integrate with roadside infrastructure and support transportation agencies through highly available, cloud-hosted software platforms.
Working closely with Product Management, QA, DevOps and Engineering teams, you'll shape software architecture, modernise engineering practices and build high-performing development teams capable of delivering reliable software into mission-critical operational environments.
This opportunity will appeal to experienced software engineering leaders who enjoy solving complex technical challenges while building scalable platforms that support connected transportation systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead multiple software engineering teams responsible for developing cloud-native transportation applications.
- Define engineering strategy, software architecture and DevOps practices to improve delivery quality and release cadence.
- Drive Agile delivery across multiple product teams, ensuring predictable software releases and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the design, development and deployment of highly available, real-time software platforms supporting transportation operations.
- Work closely with Product Management to prioritise product roadmaps, feature delivery and long-term technology strategy.
- Champion engineering best practice across software development, automated testing, CI/CD and production support.
- Mentor Engineering Managers, Scrum Masters and senior software engineers while developing future technical leaders.
- Manage engineering resources, delivery risks, budgets and technical priorities across multiple concurrent programmes.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
- Experience leading enterprise software engineering teams within transportation technology, operational technology, intelligent infrastructure or another highly available software environment.
- Strong background in Java-based enterprise application development.
- Experience developing RESTful services, distributed systems and cloud-hosted software platforms.
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL, Oracle or other enterprise relational databases.
- Experience leading Agile software delivery using Scrum and modern DevOps practices.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, release management and software quality assurance.
- Experience developing systems that process live operational data, integrate with connected field devices or support real-time decision making would be highly advantageous.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related technical discipline.
